I’ve heard great reviews from friends who have dined at Yoda, which has even earned a Tabelog Silver rating. This restaurant only takes reservations for 8 people, 4 for lunch and 4 for dinner, making it quite difficult to secure a spot. I happened to find an available reservation on a Friday, so I decided to visit.Located in a calm area just outside Yokohama's Chinatown, the restaurant features both counter and table seating, giving it a cozy café-like atmosphere.Since I had already placed my order when making the reservation, I just ordered a drink and waited for my tonkatsu to arrive. After about 30 minutes, the Tokyo X loin arrived. It looked remarkably white! Generally, white tonkatsu is thought to have a less crispy coating, but this one seemed to have a great texture just from its appearance. I took a bite without any sauce first. The coating was surprisingly crispy, and the meat was incredibly tender and juicy. Even without any condiments, the flavor of the meat was rich and satisfying. I’ve tried tonkatsu from various places that serve Tokyo X, but this one stood out in terms of quality.Shortly after, the freshly cooked rice arrived. It was slightly firmer than usual, and even on its own, it was delicious. Of course, it paired perfectly with the tonkatsu. I then tried it with salt, soy sauce with wasabi, and sauce, and each combination was fantastic. The fat was not greasy at all, and even after finishing a full serving, I didn’t feel heavy. I left feeling pleasantly full. While securing a reservation can be quite challenging, this restaurant is definitely worth the effort.
