Unagi Musashino, located in Urawa, is renowned as the birthplace of grilled eel and is particularly popular among locals. It’s conveniently about a 5-minute walk from Urawa Station, famous for its fluffy grilling style typical of the Kanto region.I arrived just before 10 AM on a holiday, being around the 10th in line. The restaurant opened just before 10:30 AM, and I was fortunate to be seated in the first round. On that day, I ordered the Mikawa-produced new eel rice bowl for JPY 6,600, which included liver soup, pickles, and grilled liver for a total of JPY 7,650. The grilled liver is said to be limited in quantity.First, I was served tea and grilled liver. The teacup featured an illustration of Urawa Unako-chan, created by Takashi Yanase. The grilled liver had a delightful crunchy texture in places, and I could already sense the exceptional flavor of the sauce.About 30 minutes after placing my order, the rice bowl arrived. It looked incredibly fluffy and aromatic; I didn’t even need the sansho pepper. The sauce was on a whole new level of deliciousness. Although I usually prefer Kansai-style eel, this place is in a league of its own. I finished it in no time!
