I visited "Unagi no Matsu Ka" during my trip to Matsumoto, looking forward to a delightful lunch. Since reservations are not accepted, I lined up directly at the restaurant. Based on my research, I learned that they sometimes sell out before opening, so I arrived around 9 AM to ensure I wouldn’t miss out, especially considering my Shinkansen schedule. The exterior of the restaurant is a charming old wooden Japanese house that gives off a sense of history dating back to the Edo period. While waiting in line, the staff kindly offered me a blanket to keep warm, which I truly appreciated. ^^ After a while, they allowed us to wait inside even before opening. On this day, it seemed that arriving a bit later was fine, as some customers were let in around 10:30 AM.At 11:15, my highly anticipated "Unagi Bento" arrived! I was thrilled to see the generous portion of eel spilling out. The bento features 1.5 pieces of eel, prepared in the Kanto style by steaming and then grilling over charcoal. The skin was crispy and fragrant, while the meat was tender and fluffy. You could really feel the craftsmanship in every bite. It was delicious! The sauce was also exquisite—not too sweet or too strong—perfectly enhancing the richness of the eel and the flavor of the rice. I was pleasantly surprised by the addition of Nara-zuke (pickled vegetables). I left feeling completely satisfied. It was a great meal!
