In Ashiya, my go-to spots include:Eragon,Mizutaki Kohaku,Ashiya Kenshirou,Momo-yaki Kawamura,Shokudo Kifune,Tempura Sakurato,Kushi Katsu Aabon, and many more. You can't go wrong with any of these! For starters:Chilled Chawanmushi (savory egg custard)Rich in egg flavor with a delicious dashi jelly.A place that gets the basics right is always a winner! While waiting for the grilled dishes, it's good to order a few more items:Wasabi Grilled Chicken Breast,Sashimi Platter,White Liver Pâté,Three Types of Potato Salad,Watercress Salad. All of them are fantastic and delicious!By the way, the same menu is available at Mizutaki Kohaku too!Negima (chicken and green onion skewers),Sunazuri (gizzard),Seseri (neck meat),Spicy Grilled Chicken Wings. The chicken here, especially the Oshio Jidori, is truly delicious! For palate cleansing:Yuba Tofu (tofu skin),Eggplant Ohitashi (lightly boiled eggplant). The vegetables are incredibly tasty. That day's grilled vegetables included zucchini from Miyazaki. So juicy! The heat and salt levels were just perfect. Finally, the Tsukune (chicken meatballs). That day it was with cheese. While gooey cheese might seem cheap, the fluffy cheese enhances the umami of the tsukune beautifully. So good!To finish, we had clay pot rice:Corn and chicken, topped with dried mentaiko (spicy cod roe).Unlike the usual dry chicken in mixed rice, this was packed with flavor. It was delicious until the very last bite. The leftover rice was made into onigiri (rice balls) to take home in a lovely bag.Eragon is always a reliable choice. It was a great meal!
