I visited APICIUS for the first time, as Mother's Day was approaching. The restaurant's name is derived from the ancient Roman gourmet, Apicius. I felt a sense of anticipation as I descended the stairs. Since its establishment in 1983, it has confidently held a position as one of the top runners in Japanese French cuisine.Every dish showcased delicate techniques and was delicious, but the standout was the Dover sole with scallop rolls and shrimp wrapped in kataifi, served with Albert sauce. The richness of the sauce, the thick scallops, and the harmony with the sole were simply outstanding. It was my first time tasting the Dover sole, known as the queen of fish, and its finely textured flesh paired beautifully with the sauce—truly classic and educational.I also tried turtle soup for the first time, and the color and clarity of the soup were striking. Although I have never cooked turtle, I understand they are quite fatty. Yet, this soup had no oily taste at all, while still conveying the substantial essence of the turtle. The exquisite balance of turtle stock, consommé, and sherry was impressive. The desserts were all delightful, and I wished I could try them all, but I’ll save that for another occasion.I highly recommend visiting this restaurant on a special day!
