I visited the renowned unagi restaurant, Unagi Tei Tomoe, in Odawara City. Of course, I was aiming for the unaju, but I also enjoyed some appetizers while having a drink during lunch. This time, we were in a private tatami room with four people. We started with a toast over bottled beer. The first appetizer was fresh eggplant with vinegared miso. While the beer was delicious, I thought it was time to switch to Japanese sake.We had fresh liver (with sauce) and fresh liver (with wasabi). These pair perfectly with the sake.Next, we enjoyed homemade salted eel, which also went wonderfully with the sake. We tried seven different types of sake, each served in unique vessels, adding to the experience! In between, we had peanut tofu. Then came the grilled unagi served without sauce. I topped it with freshly grated wasabi. Unlike kabayaki, this dish was light and allowed us to savor the pure flavor of the eel. Finally, the main event arrived: the unaju.I had informed the restaurant in advance that we would be sharing two servings of unaju among four people, so it was served in a different dish rather than the usual box. This unaju was quite substantial (about 1.7 times the usual size), so sharing one serving between two people was still very satisfying. I truly appreciate a restaurant that accommodates such requests. The unaju from this famous establishment was undeniably delicious. The service from the staff was also very attentive and pleasant. It was a delightful lunch with drinks, capped off by the unaju. It was a perfect day.It was a great meal!
