Kabuto, a highly renowned eel restaurant located in Ikebukuro, is a must-visit. I was invited by an acquaintance to check it out. The interior has a calming atmosphere with a sense of history. We started with various skewers, followed by shirayaki (grilled eel without sauce) and kabayaki (grilled eel with sauce). It seems they don’t serve wild eel on the first visit, and comparing the sizes of the regular eels to the wild ones, the wild ones are significantly larger—about 1.3 to 1.5 times bigger. I definitely want to try all wild eel next time. Both the kabayaki and shirayaki were incredibly delicious. I’ll be back in winter!
