One of the most difficult Japanese restaurants to book in Kyoto, it quietly stands in a serene residential area near Kuramaguchi Station. The course started with a corn puree and included a rich selection of seasonal summer flavors such as conger eel, sweetfish, and Kamo eggplant, along with luxurious ingredients like sea urchin and black abalone. The squid sashimi with a sauce made from funa (carp) was delightful, as was the lightly grilled, moist conger eel and the crispy, fragrant sweetfish cooked over an irori (traditional Japanese hearth). The recommended Japanese sake and wine were incredibly delicious, leading me to indulge a bit too much. The course was quite substantial, so I couldn't try all the options for the finale, but I enjoyed the Chinese noodles and natto rice bowl, with the large grains of natto being exceptionally tasty, possibly homemade. Given the quality of the dishes and the pricing, this restaurant is remarkably reasonable for today's standards.
