My first visit to Unagi Tei Tomoei. This was a request from someone I hadn't seen in a while, and I thought to myself that it was quite far. However, I probably wouldn't have come here on my own without the request.Be cautious when making reservations. I made a phone reservation, but it was only to secure the number of eels. After spending time traveling, I was informed that it would take about two hours to be seated. I thought, "This is going to be tough." I had to wait, but where should I wait?Fortunately, there was a nearby bakery with a dining area, so we waited there while chatting.I was seated in a tatami room, and the atmosphere was lovely. I could see the green mountains through the window, resembling a beautiful landscape painting.Since I had pre-ordered when making the reservation, the service was smooth once we were seated.First up was the liver.I could choose between sauce or wasabi, but I wanted to enjoy the ingredient itself, so I opted for the latter. The size and careful preparation of the liver were outstanding. There was nothing unpleasant about it. While I was curious about the liver with sauce, I felt that choosing wasabi was the right decision. Wasabi leaves no room for disguise. The liver was the most impressive dish for me this time.Next was the white grilled eel.I was surprised by its size and thickness.Since it wasn't steamed, the texture was firm when I bit into it, but the eel's fat quickly melted in my mouth. They served wasabi, yuzu pepper, and sansho miso as condiments, but personally, I found that the homemade daidai ponzu on the table paired wonderfully with it.This daidai ponzu seems to be a limited-time offering. Then came the main dish, unaju (grilled eel over rice). The size and thickness of the eel were indeed impressive. The eel in the unaju is steamed, so it cuts easily. When I tasted it, there was no feeling of the eel's muscle fibers, just a fluffy texture and a clear richness of fat.I think it might be close to the pinnacle of Kanto-style eel.The sauce was also wonderful. The balance of saltiness, soy sauce aroma, sweetness, and thickness was exceptional. It paired well with both the eel and the rice. The rice was cooked perfectly and in the right amount. After enjoying everything, I had no regrets about the long wait. In fact, it was worth the time spent to come here.As the seasons change, I look forward to enjoying the changing scenery along the way.It was incredibly delicious! Thank you for the meal!
