【Visit Date】June 2026, Weekday DinnerNearest Station: About a 5-minute walk from Shinjuku StationAt 5 PM on a weekday, I visited with a friend from university. This was my third visit to Tori Shige.Once again, we ordered the chef's omakase course.Since it was a long-awaited reunion with my friend, we got caught up in nostalgic conversations and enjoyed our drinks a bit too much, so I ended up forgetting to take pictures of several dishes... haha.Tori Shige is renowned as the birthplace of stuffed green peppers. The omakase course, featuring their signature dishes and a variety of yakitori, consistently delivers high satisfaction every time I visit.Once again, the flavors were outstanding. They serve various cuts of pork cooked to perfection, allowing us to enjoy the different textures and flavors. The liver was particularly memorable. My friend usually dislikes liver, but I suggested, "You might enjoy Tori Shige's liver."After taking a bite, they exclaimed, "This is delicious!" It was surprising to see how much they enjoyed it. The dish had minimal odor, making it approachable even for those who typically shy away from liver. On the other hand, I noticed the pacing of the dish service was inconsistent, just like during my previous visits.Sometimes dishes come out in quick succession, while at other times, we had to wait quite a while for the next one, leading to moments where I felt they might have forgotten about our order.I've visited several times, and this has been a consistent observation, so I believe that improving the service consistency would enhance the overall satisfaction. That said, the deliciousness of the food is undeniable, making it a place I want to return to again and again. If you're looking to enjoy yakitori in Shinjuku, this is definitely a place to consider. It was a great meal.A sommelier in their 30s provides an honest review of the food, service, and cost performance.Taste: 28/30Service: 15/20Atmosphere: 17/20Cost Performance: 16/20Likelihood of Revisit: 9/10【Overall Rating】85/100Recommended for:- Those who want to visit a famous yakitori restaurant- Those who want to enjoy rare cuts in an omakase course- Those who dislike liver but want to try delicious liver- Those searching for a reputable yakitori spot in Shinjuku.
