I visited Otowa Restaurant, a French dining gem recognized as one of the top 100 restaurants in Japan and awarded Silver on Tabelog, for my friend's birthday. It's not often that I travel to Tochigi for French cuisine, so this was a delightful little excursion! The restaurant is about a 15-minute taxi ride from Utsunomiya Station. The exterior is a stylish concrete house, and upon entering, I was greeted by walls adorned with signatures from famous chefs and artists, adding an element of discovery with well-known restaurants represented.◆MENU◆Eritage JPY 24,200• Amuse• Snow Fairy• Sweetfish• Seasonal Tochigi Vegetables• Lobster• Ezo Abalone• Yashio Trout with Cucumber• Lamb with White Eggplant• Egg à la Neige with Melon• MignardisesThe chef, being from Utsunomiya, incorporates local ingredients, and the dishes were not only delicious but also visually stunning, making the experience even more exciting. The highlight was undoubtedly the Ezo Abalone wrapped in pastry, which everyone raves about. They brought the pastry to the table before cutting it, and it looked absolutely gorgeous! The combination of the abalone's richness, the creamy sauce, and the flaky pastry was simply divine. I was truly moved by the flavors.Towards the end of the meal, the chef personally visited each table to greet guests, which was a lovely touch. While Tochigi is often associated with gyoza, I can honestly say that this French cuisine was exceptional! Although it's a bit far, I would love to visit this restaurant again!
