As a French cuisine enthusiast, I felt it was essential to visit APICIUS for a family celebration.Upon descending the stairs to the basement, I encountered a heavy door that opened from the inside. I wondered how it was visible from the outside...The approach to the dining area featured staff members greeting us with gracious hospitality. The walls of the restaurant are a stunning hybrid of stone and wood. The art adorning the space includes works by world-renowned artists such as Chagall, Buffet, and Rodin, each piece compelling enough to make you stop and admire. This art-filled environment reminded me of the collection room at the Hiramaatsu Hiroo flagship store, where we were guided to our dining area.As I turned a corner, I was greeted by luxurious floral arrangements that could rival those found in a high-end hotel lobby, leading us to the dining space.Wow! The design of the dining room we were shown was simply magnificent! This is a level of ambiance that is hard to find elsewhere! If there are other dining places in Japan with such an atmosphere, I would love to know. The table lamps were, of course, by Gallé. In this exciting space, I felt like a child again, and my daughter remarked, "Dad, you look like you're having a great time," with a hint of sarcasm. Well, that’s just how it is.Today, we had reserved the Traditional Course, so we started with a glass of white wine. By the way, I’m not sure if there’s a drink menu, but since the prices are unclear, you’ll be deciding based on conversations with the sommelier, so beginners should keep that in mind.Typically, a glass costs around JPY 3,500 to JPY 5,000, but if you try to be fancy like I did, the price can skyrocket, so be cautious. Seriously, plan your spending wisely. The food itself is classic French cuisine, and while a JPY 20,000 course might seem like the decor and service take most of the credit, rest assured that the skills of this renowned establishment ensure a satisfying experience. One slight disappointment was the wagon of desserts. While the classic tarts and cakes were beautifully made with quality ingredients, they all had a rather heavy taste, so be careful not to overindulge. One of the highlights of French dining is the dessert, so if APICIUS could offer a grand dessert unique to their restaurant, it would elevate their reputation even further. That said, having the opportunity to dine in such a wonderful atmosphere is a rare experience in a lifetime, so I highly recommend visiting for special occasions.
