During my udon tour in Kagawa, I finally visited the much-anticipated "Suzaki Shokuryohin Ten." This famous restaurant boasts numerous accolades, including being listed among Tabelog's top 100 restaurants, and even on weekdays, there was a solid line of customers. I had high expectations going in.I ordered the udon with a raw egg and the kakiage udon. The first bite of the noodles revealed an incredible firmness. Instead of being just chewy, they had a delightful bounce that truly embodies Sanuki udon. The simplicity of enjoying them with just soy sauce, ginger, and green onions really highlights the noodles' presence. The creaminess when mixed with the raw egg was particularly enjoyable, and the kakiage was freshly fried and crispy. Despite its simplicity, it was quite satisfying. However, to be honest, while I can confidently say it was "incredibly delicious," I couldn't fully grasp why it received such high praise. I imagine that those who regularly enjoy various udon dishes might be moved by the texture of the noodles and the balance with the broth. That said, the local atmosphere and self-service style typical of Kagawa make this place well worth a visit on your udon journey. It’s a famous spot for Sanuki udon that can be enjoyed even from a tourist's perspective.
