If you're looking to enjoy tempura in Kumamoto, I highly recommend Tsuru Hachi.At first, I thought the portion sizes might be a bit small, but by the end of the meal, my concerns were completely unfounded. Freshly fried tempura, from seafood to vegetables, was served at a great pace, and I left feeling thoroughly satisfied.The batter was light, allowing the flavors of the ingredients to shine through. While the shrimp and fish were delicious, the standout for me was the tempura made with red eggplant.Surprisingly, it was my first time trying red eggplant, and I found the flesh to be tender and sweet, making it incredibly tasty. The simplicity of the tempura really highlighted the quality of the ingredients.With a variety of side dishes in between, I found the overall volume to be quite substantial by the time I finished my rice. What started as a concern about whether I would have enough to eat turned into a feeling of being quite full.Being able to enjoy freshly fried tempura one dish at a time at the counter was a great experience, and I definitely want to return to this tempura restaurant in Kumamoto.
