Just a 7-minute walk from Kazamatsuri Station, I visited the renowned "Unagi Tei Tomoe," a Silver Award winner among Japan's top eel restaurants.I arrived 20 minutes before the 10 AM opening on a weekday, and there were 9 parking spaces available. Instead of a registration book, I checked in and placed my order at the counter inside. I was informed that I could enter during the first round of seating. They started guiding us into the restaurant 5 minutes before opening, and I was able to get in smoothly. This restaurant requires a reservation for eel in advance, but I decided to visit without one.I ordered the Unaju for JPY 8,000 and requested a large serving of rice (which is free).About 25 minutes later, my large Unaju was served, accompanied by liver soup and pickles. The eel was thick, with some pieces overlapping, making it look incredibly appetizing even before tasting. The eel was fluffy yet tender, offering an exceptional melt-in-your-mouth texture typical of Kanto-style Unaju. The rich umami flavor of the eel was prominent, and the thickness provided a satisfying bite. The rice was perfectly cooked as well. The liver soup was also excellent.I enjoyed a second helping of rice along with the delicious pickles, and I savored every bite until the end. This is definitely the best eel I've had this year!
