I had always wanted to visit this restaurant, famous for its white tonkatsu. I thought I could get a reservation during Golden Week, and I was able to secure one easily online. When I think of tonkatsu, I usually imagine a crispy exterior with a chewy interior, but here, the tonkatsu had a fluffy outside and was tender and juicy inside. On this day, I added the TOKYO X chateaubriand for an extra JPY 2200. It was exceptionally delicious. I was amazed at how flavorful the pork was—so much so that other pork dishes seemed bland in comparison.Aside from tonkatsu, I could choose two dishes from shrimp tempura, menchi-katsu, chicken katsu, and lamb katsu (for an additional JPY 300). Since there were two of us, we each picked two dishes to try everything. The shrimp tempura was fluffy and soft. The lamb katsu was a bit heavy in both smell and texture towards the end of the tonkatsu course, making it hard to eat. Surprisingly, the chicken katsu was a hit; it was light and easy to eat after the tonkatsu. The menchi-katsu was also a standout—so juicy that the meat juices flowed out with just one bite. I’ve never had menchi-katsu like this before.Perhaps due to the low-temperature frying, the overall coating felt quite oily, making the first bite feel a bit heavy. By the end, I was extremely full and couldn’t finish, so I had to rely on my companion to help me out.I thought the final dessert would be refreshing, but it turned out to be a banana pound cake made with the tonkatsu batter, which made me give up completely. I would have appreciated a lighter dessert, like fruit or ice cream. This set meal? Course? cost just over JPY 10,000 per person, which felt a bit pricey. However, I didn’t think the JPY 2200 for the TOKYO X chateaubriand was expensive; it was worth it. I found myself wishing I could just go back for the TOKYO X, chicken katsu, and menchi-katsu.
