I was looking forward to visiting Azabudai Hills "Shokudou Aca." In the quiet yet vibrant atmosphere of the nine-seat counter, I was captivated by the chef's impressive skills and enticing aromas. Here’s what the course included:Chilled Gazpacho: A surprising first dish where the refreshing acidity of the gazpacho blends with the flavor of buckwheat, smoothly capturing the palate.Kesennuma Bonito: The exquisite char from the crispy skin and the sweetness of the fat create a perfect harmony. The umami punch from the onions, garlic, and vinegar brings a smile to my face.Bocadillo (Sandwich): This dish completely knocked me out. The perfectly cooked rare hamburger oozed with juices, making me internally shout, "I want another one!" in pure bliss.White Fig: Tossed in a garlic sauce. The nutty and rich sauce enhances the sweetness of the fig, showcasing impressive culinary skill.Homemade Butter Bread: Baked with "grapevine branches" in the charcoal, the delightful aroma wafts through the air. It pairs perfectly with the rich homemade butter.Corn Cream Croquette: Enjoying it hot and fresh. The sweet burst of corn combined with the rich béchamel sauce creates a heavenly duo.Fried Sardines: Lightly pickled in an escabeche style. The crispy coating and the strong umami of the sardines are a perfect match.Hinai Chicken / Manganji Pepper: The crispy skin and moist, glossy meat. The Hinai chicken, smoked with grapevine, is cooked to perfection, showcasing the true essence of charcoal grilling.Clam and Matsutake Rice (Arroz Caldo): A treasure trove of umami with an intense broth from conger eel and shellfish, generously infused with matsutake mushrooms. An explosive deliciousness!Octopus Paella: Rice infused with the flavors of octopus and garlic, with a delightful crispy bottom. Changing the flavor with alioli sauce makes it so addictive that I found myself wanting seconds, even when full.Crema Catalana and Goat Milk Ice Cream: The goat milk has no strong flavor and offers a creaminess denser than cow's milk. The sweetness and richness provide the perfect reset, leading to a magnificent finale. It was an exceptional restaurant that left me savoring the aftertaste.
