The name "Jiyu San" likely comes from this road name.The nearest stations are Shin-Egota on the Oedo Line and Ochiai-Minami-Nagasaki, both about an 8-9 minute walk away, making it a bit inconvenient.For an easier route, I recommend taking the "Toei Bus Shiro 61" that connects Nerima Station and Shinjuku Station West Exit, and getting off at the "Minami-Nagasaki 6-chome Bus Stop," which is just a minute's walk away. This is probably the most convenient way to get there.While it is indeed in a somewhat inconvenient location, the soba here is so flavorful that you might find yourself exclaiming "Ahh" in bliss. I highly encourage all soba lovers to visit and experience this happiness!With the scorching summer ahead, it’s best to hop on this bus route to avoid too much walking.On the day I visited, I had the:- "Jiyu Course 2900 JPY" Cold: Seiro Soba, Hot: Small Herring Soba, Sweet: Mizu AzukiThis delightful course offers both cold and hot soba, each in a light serving size. You can upgrade to "Inaka Soba" for an additional 300 JPY, which is the source of that blissful "Ahh" moment.The highlight was definitely enjoying it with salt. While the dipping sauce was also deliciously sharp, the combination with salt brought out the soba's flavor in a surprising way.They grind and prepare the soba fresh daily, which contributes to its excellent flavor, and the quality of the water they use is likely very good as well.There are two other courses that include both hot and cold soba (with more dishes like tamagoyaki), but those require a minimum of two people. The note stating "We accept single diners for the Jiyu Course" made it perfect for me as I was dining alone.Among the top 100 soba restaurants, this one has a high score. Typically, high-scoring soba restaurants require reservations and offer set courses, but here, lunch does not require a reservation.Thus, for someone like me who prefers to drop by spontaneously, waiting about 30 minutes in line was manageable, especially knowing I could just walk in and be served that day.I also appreciated that they accept card and barcode payments!
