Today, I visited the highly praised "Tonkatsu Fujii." I was fortunate enough to secure a reservation for my desired date and time. It took just 2-3 minutes to walk from Senbayashi Station, where I was warmly welcomed by a friendly couple. They quickly explained the menu and how to place an order, and I ordered exactly what I wanted. Here’s what I enjoyed today:① Weekday Limited Lunch Set - JPY 2,200 → For the lunch set, you first choose between loin or tenderloin. This time, I opted for the loin because I can order the tenderloin as an extra. The loin seems to be from a breed called Hayashi SPF pork. It was served at the end of the course, and I found it to have a firmer texture than I expected. I chose the chicken tender cutlet as my additional item. The chicken tender cutlet was incredibly crispy and delicious, with a distinct flavor in the coating. It was my first encounter with a coating that made me exclaim, "This is amazing!"② (Extra) Tenderloin Cutlet 70g - JPY 1,250 → This time, I selected the Ebisu Mochi Pork half. I was informed that this pork is fed bananas. Of course, there was no banana flavor, but the tenderness was extraordinary. When I took a bite, the juices burst out, and the meat's flavor was fantastic—an experience I rarely have.③ (Extra) Minced Cutlet - JPY 500 → This was incredible! I’ve had delicious tonkatsu at various places, but I’ve never had a minced cutlet like this. The sweetness was remarkable, and although it looked fatty, it was surprisingly light and refreshing. It was truly delicious, and I ended up asking for a second serving of rice. The rice served with the set meal was also tasty, fragrant, and the dressings for the cabbage were sesame, and carrot & onion varieties. The sauces for the tonkatsu included a sauce, a mustard-based sauce, and salt. I first tried it plain. The loin pairs well with the sauce, while the chicken tender cutlet goes perfectly with the mustard-based sauce. The special salt complements everything nicely. However, for the minced cutlet, I recommend having it plain or with just a little salt to enhance its aroma without overpowering its flavor.I was a bit apprehensive about my reservation, hoping it would be good, but I experienced an incredible tonkatsu here. I want my children to try this, so I definitely plan to come back with them.Thank you for the wonderful meal today; I was quite impressed. It was truly delicious, and I look forward to visiting again!
