This year, I participated in the annual Hamamatsu eel tour during Golden Week, and I made a reservation in advance at this highly-rated restaurant.It seemed that even walk-in customers were being guided with time slots, so reservations might not be strictly necessary.The menu featured a designated dish: the Special Unagi Rice Bowl.Before serving, I was shown the eel of the day, and I thought it looked a bit slim, but I was informed it was farmed eel from Hamamatsu.As an appetizer, I was served simmered beef, which was well-seasoned and heightened my anticipation for the eel bowl.The unagi rice bowl was generously served with a whole eel.After serving, the chef explained the eel and the rice, but I didn’t quite catch it.The eel bowl was lighter than I expected, giving off a traditional Japanese restaurant vibe.I personally prefer a richer, crispy eel, so I felt a bit let down.Since it’s eel, I’m not sure if it was just a variation in quality, but it was a little disappointing.
