I visited Shutei Tanaka, a yakitori restaurant located about a 5-minute walk from Kanegafuchi Station, nestled in a residential area. By chance, I was able to secure a cancellation spot for the omakase, which was a stroke of luck, as it’s generally difficult to get a reservation at this place and cancellations are rare. The interior features an L-shaped counter, and although I was dining alone, there were others who came by themselves as well.Omakase Course:- Appetizer (Kumano jidori chicken porridge in white soup)- Chicken breast- Simmered dish (Senryo eggplant, Yamashina chili, steamed abalone)- Liver- Palate cleanser (Chilled fig with Hatcho miso ice cream)- Negima (chicken and green onion skewers)- Aina fish and hon-maguro (bluefin tuna)- Shiitake mushrooms- Refreshing dish (Aokubi daikon, Kaga cucumber, nagaimo, myoga with sweet vinegar, white cucumber)- Chicken wings- Tsukune (chicken meatballs with kumquat and Grana Padano cheese)- Fried dish (hamo eel, Gold Rush)- Segimo (chicken gizzard)- Hatsu (chicken heart)- To finish off, chicken soba (white soup)As I progressed through the course, it felt more like a chicken kaiseki meal than just eating yakitori, and everything was delicious. The sashimi was different from what was originally planned for the day, but it seemed they had acquired something special, which I thought was a lovely touch. The course listed on the menu might not be enough, so towards the end, the staff kindly asks if you’d like to order anything additional, allowing you to adjust based on your appetite, which is very considerate. Although the location is a bit far, the quality of the food and service is excellent, making it easy to understand why regulars fill up the reservations. I was able to make a reservation for my next visit, and I’m looking forward to returning in the fall!It was a great meal!
