"Ichirin Hanare" is a Sichuan restaurant located about a 15-minute walk from Kamakura Station, recognized by Tabelog as a "SILVER" establishment and listed among the "Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in the East." On this day, I was exploring Kamakura. About ten days prior to my visit, I made a reservation for the "Weekday Lunch Course" (JPY 8,800 + 10% service charge) through Tabelog. The restaurant is situated in a residential area of Kamakura, housed in a traditional Japanese-style building with a lovely garden. The exterior is charming. Inside, there are only counter seats, and the stone counter table has a substantial feel to it. The view of the greenery from the garden outside adds to the modern yet serene atmosphere. The course menu mainly lists the names of the ingredients. For instance, a dish labeled "corn" turned out to be a chilled corn soup. It was enjoyable to imagine what would be served next. Course Contents: - Corn - Doubanjiang (fermented broad bean paste) - Tanba Kōsaka Chicken - Dumplings with dipping sauce, followed by noodles - Shark Fin Soup with Congee (additional JPY 3,000) - Passion Fruit - Sweet and Sour Pork - Water Spinach - Pho - Shiso Leaf - Tea Sweets - Chinese Tea (additional) The chilled corn soup was sweet and refreshing, perfect for summer cravings. I was glad to start with this dish. The bowl with Tanba Kōsaka chicken liver was packed with sesame seeds and included cilantro. The liver was moist and rich in flavor. After enjoying the chicken, I dipped dumplings into the same soup and finished with the noodles. The texture of the sesame seeds was delightful throughout the meal, making it all very enjoyable. The shark fin I ordered as an extra was my favorite dish of the day. The rich, creamy soup contained mushrooms, adding a nice crunch to the dish. The shark fin was delicious! The passion fruit was used in the sweet and sour shrimp sauce. It had a sweet and tangy flavor, offering a fun twist compared to regular sweet and sour shrimp. Just by looking at the menu, I couldn't tell what would be served, and it was exciting to discover each dish as it arrived. This kind of course is truly interesting. Not only the food but also the atmosphere of dining in a traditional Japanese house in Kamakura was wonderful. It was a great meal!
