"Sumibi Yakiniku Kyuu" is a highly popular yakiniku restaurant located about a 5-minute walk from Akita Station in Akita Prefecture. It has been selected as a "BRONZE" restaurant on Tabelog and is also listed among the "Top 100 Yakiniku Restaurants in the East."I had been wanting to visit this place for a while, and during my recent mini trip to Akita, I finally had the chance to go.This restaurant is quite popular, and reservations fill up quickly on weekends. Since I decided to go on a whim the day before my trip, I called to check availability, and luckily, they had openings at 5 PM. What a stroke of luck! I ordered the "Maku Course" (JPY 11,000) when making the reservation.Upon arriving before 5 PM, I found that the restaurant was already open, and there were a few customers ahead of me. It wasn't fully booked at that time, so it seems that early reservations might be possible. The interior features a Shinto altar, creating a stylish space that blends traditional Japanese ambiance with a modern touch. The course included three plates of meat, allowing me to enjoy various cuts in small portions. Overall, the meat was rich in flavor, making it a delightful experience to savor each bite. The first plate featured beef tongue and other items. The ume (plum) and katsuobushi (dried bonito) dipping sauce was incredibly delicious and paired perfectly with the beef tongue. It was refreshing yet flavorful, setting a great tone from the start. The second plate included Chateaubriand. I enjoyed it dipped in egg and paired with a small amount of rice. The tender meat combined with the creaminess of the egg made for a delightful dish. The final plate consisted of horumon (offal). The honeycomb tripe had a nice crunchy texture. However, this is just my personal preference, but ending with offal felt slightly unsatisfying. To finish, we had cold noodles. They were refreshing, with a chewy texture and well-seasoned, making them a perfect conclusion after the yakiniku. As a surprise, the dessert was soft serve ice cream! It's rare to have soft serve at the end of a yakiniku course, which was a pleasant surprise. The service from the staff was excellent, making for a very enjoyable dining experience. This is a great restaurant.I feel truly lucky to have been able to get a reservation on such short notice. I left feeling full and completely satisfied! It was a great meal!
