I revisited the reservation-only Yakiniku Kosen, a nostalgic Showa-era restaurant located in Katsushika Ward, Tateishi. This time, I joined a gathering of regular customers. Thank you for the invitation. This traditional yakiniku restaurant has been in business for over 40 years. It’s just a 1-minute walk from Tateishi Station on the Keisei Oshiage Line, situated in the Tateishi Nakamise shopping street. The owner, Hidetaka Anryu, trained for 12 years at various yakiniku restaurants in Tokyo before taking over the family business established by his grandmother. As I entered through the short noren curtain, I found the first floor featuring an L-shaped counter with 8 seats and 4 gas grills. The second floor appears to have a tatami room for banquets. The kitchen behind the counter is spotless, giving a sense of cleanliness. Here’s what I enjoyed today:- Black Wagyu Beef Tongue- Large Rice- Premium Black Wagyu Beef Tongue- Black Wagyu Hanging Tender- Black Wagyu Outside Skirt- Premium Loin- Sauce Hanging Tender- Sauce Outside Skirt- Large Rice- Regular Loin- Spencer Roll- Gyu-Kara (Beef Offal)- Mountain Chain Tripe- Rib Gata (Rib Meat)- Tongue Tip- Liver and Garlic Chives Sushi RollThe meat served here is prepared with great care. The sauce, passed down from the grandmother’s generation, is a refreshing and subtly sweet base. Different sauces are used for each cut, all of which pair perfectly with rice, making for a satisfying yakiniku experience. The sounds and aromas of grilling meat further enhance the enjoyment of the white rice. I truly savored the yakiniku in a world that felt like a time slip back to the Showa era.It was a great meal.
