In Gion, there is a restaurant where you can indulge in your mood and appetite for the day. Located on Rakuen Street, just off Hanamikoji, is "Gion Endo." Opened in 2011, this counter-style kappo restaurant focuses on seafood, allowing you to enjoy as much of your favorites as you like. The handwritten menu features a variety of dishes, from sashimi and grilled items to stews, salads, omelets, rice bowls, and fried rice. It’s great to settle in for a meal as your first stop, or to enjoy a few more bites of fish later in the evening. The choice is not up to the restaurant, but rather your stomach for the day. The owner, Kouta Endo, comes from a family that supplies fish to renowned restaurants, which is why the handling of fish here is exceptionally straightforward. The "Sea Bream Sashimi" is cut thickly, bouncing back with each bite, releasing a delicate sweetness as you chew. The following dish, "Grilled Sweetfish," offers a delightful experience with its fragrant skin, sweet flesh, and slightly bitter belly, allowing you to enjoy every part of the fish. The restaurant presents each type of fish in the most delicious way, whether raw or grilled, from the sea or river. And to finish, there’s the "White Rice." Accompanying it are "Mentaiko" and "Ikura." The rich umami and saltiness of the "Mentaiko" call for the rice, while the "Ikura" bursts with flavor in your mouth, spreading its richness with each pop. As you alternate between the pickles and the white rice, you savor the sashimi, grilled fish, and your favorite side dishes with the rice. This is true happiness. In the end, this kind of meal brings the greatest joy.It was a great meal.
