Pork is perfect for recovering from fatigue and boosting stamina, and that’s why I chose "Yoda" for my visit.I made a reservation when my immune system was low, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the cozy counter can seat five, along with two four-person tables (if I remember correctly). We were the only four guests in the restaurant, which is quite popular and fills up quickly when reservations open on the first of each month. The exterior is surprisingly chic for a tonkatsu restaurant, and the interior is refined and minimalistic, free from the typical odors you might find in food establishments.I ordered two pieces of Special Tenderloin, skipping the rice, miso soup, and pickled vegetables to enjoy a beer instead—luxurious tonkatsu for lunch! It took about 25 minutes from sitting down to having my meal served. I passed the time reading the delicious eating tips on their official website. The tenderloin, a delicate pink, is fried to perfection, sealing in the juices—this is Yoda's signature meat dish. One piece was cut in half, while the other remained whole. I took a bite of the half without any sauce.Inosinic acid, glutamic acid, oleic acid—these flavors pulled me into a delicious Bermuda Triangle of umami, with a delightful sweetness and rich aroma of fat spreading in my mouth. For the other half, I added a sprinkle of salt… the sweetness of the rock salt enhanced the depth of flavor even more. After that, I dove into the whole piece, sipping my beer in between bites, and enjoyed some cabbage drizzled with sauce as a palate cleanser. Before I knew it, my meal was gone.During the payment process, I had a brief chat with the staff. They mentioned that many guests, like me, who don’t usually eat tonkatsu, come to visit. When I mentioned that I don’t eat much rice either, they encouraged me to try their delicious rice next time. I’ll definitely make an effort to reserve again and enjoy the rice!
