I visited Ji-Cube around 11:20 AM on a holiday, having made a reservation in advance. By chance, the other reservations were set for 12 PM, so we enjoyed the luxurious space almost to ourselves. What a lucky find!This restaurant is nestled in a quiet residential area of Nishi-Azabu, resembling a square house. Entering through a small garden path adds a touch of excitement.The focus here is on the rich flavors of traditional Sichuan cuisine, combined with the Japanese sensibility that enhances the natural taste of the ingredients.● Tuna The tuna marinated in Doubanjiang and Shaoxing wine is complemented by a rich soy sauce and various seasonings, creating a delightful balance. Delicious!● Saliva Chicken With black vinegar, avocado, and homemade chili oil, this dish packs a solid spiciness that lingers. The chicken is tender, and the sauce pairs perfectly.● Clam Chawanmushi with Leek and Sichuan Pepper Sauce The clam broth is exceptionally flavorful, and the aroma of Sichuan pepper is delightful.● Peking Duck Using Peking duck that has been aged for two days with sweet bean sauce, the crispy skin and rich flavor are outstanding.● Wagyu with Oyster Sauce The freshly shaved truffle aroma is tantalizing. The beef is tender, and when combined with the onsen egg, it tastes just like sukiyaki. So good!● Shrimp in Chili Sauce Made with Sichuan Doubanjiang and fermented glutinous rice wine (Chunyan), the sweetness of the rice comes first, followed by a kick of heat. The shrimp has a great texture, making this my top recommendation.● Egg Fried Rice This moist fried rice features cod roe, karasumi, salted duck egg, and shirasu, blending various umami flavors.● Kato Pork Char Siu Noodles A char siu noodle dish enriched with seafood broth. The thin noodles have a nice chew, and the rare char siu and menma are top-notch.● Jasmine Tea Crème Brûlée The jasmine tea flavor is prominent, providing a refreshing contrast to the sweetness and richness of the crème brûlée. Delicious!Ji-Cube is a hidden gem in Nishi-Azabu, offering both taste and generous portions that leave you fully satisfied. The service from the chef and staff was exceptional, and the atmosphere was wonderful. I would love to return when I'm in Nishi-Azabu again.
