Currently, this restaurant is highly rated among thousands of tonkatsu shops across the country, making it a difficult reservation spot. Reservations are fully booked three months in advance, and when the slots open at the beginning of the month, they fill up in seconds. Additionally, they release Sunday reservation slots on Fridays at 11 AM, which are relatively easier to book. However, even these slots get filled almost instantly, creating a fierce competition for reservations that lasts less than a second. After trying five or six times and failing, I finally managed to secure a reservation. By continuously refreshing the page, I was able to grab a spot that occasionally opens up due to cancellations after confirming a reservation.I requested my preferred cut of meat, with the rare tenderloin as my first choice, and since it was the 11 AM slot, I was able to get it. It’s often sold out by the evening. The meal is structured as a set, so I waited for the tonkatsu to be served. The recommended way to eat is to start with the meat, followed by cabbage, rice, and miso soup. The restaurant intentionally serves the dishes at staggered intervals, and the recommended eating method can be referenced via a QR code. The tenderloin comes in two large pieces. On this day, the rare cut was from a middle Yorkshire pig, known for its light flavor and strong umami. The portion is not large. The batter is crispy and thick, fried at a low temperature and then lightly toasted. The meat is red, and you can enjoy it with soy sauce, salt, or sauce on the cut surface. There are two types of sauce, possibly homemade. The tenderness is exquisite, and the texture melts in your mouth. Yes, it’s delicious. The rice is well-cooked and tasty, and the miso soup is rich with mushroom flavor. Overall, I was satisfied with the set meal. The price for this was JPY 7,200. While it was delicious, this price for a set meal feels a bit too high. Other famous tonkatsu restaurants like Noguchi and Nakamura, as well as Nichigetsu, offer similar quality tonkatsu but serve various cuts freshly fried in a course format. Their offerings clearly provide a higher level of satisfaction. I find it hard to understand why this place is rated so highly. However, with this visit, I have only three more restaurants left to complete my list of the top 100 tonkatsu spots. The day of completion is near.
