Kabuto @ Ikebukuro: What I Love About ItWe, Tokyo Horumon, are a group of food enthusiasts wrapping up our eel-themed posts.Talking about what I love about Kabuto @ Ikebukuro.On the last day of our eel enhancement period, this is definitely the place to be.Kabuto @ IkebukuroLooking back, I might have first consciously enjoyed grilled eel here.First, let’s start with the skewers.Various parts of the eel are carefully grilled over charcoal, allowing us to compare flavors between salt, sauce, farmed, and wild.As a palate cleanser, we have some unique side dishes like asparagus and konjac, which adds a fun twist.Although it wasn’t available that day, their cold tofu sourced from a nearby tofu shop, served with salt, is also delicious.Moreover, Kabuto offers a high level of entertainment.You can experience the thrilling "Heart-Pounding Challenge" and the unique "Head-Checking Time" that you can only find here.The sake is sourced from a certain sake shop, featuring pure rice varieties that pair wonderfully with eel. The bill can add up quickly, but it’s lovely that they don’t stock famous brand sakes.Now, about the eel.First, we had the white grilled eel.There are days when it’s not available depending on the supply, but the ability to compare wild and farmed eel is one of Kabuto’s highlights.That day, I was able to enjoy both the white grilled and kabayaki eel.Lastly, let me share one more thing I love about Kabuto:The rice is excellent.Of course, it’s freshly cooked, and I really enjoy the slightly firmer texture.Wow, today was delicious too!
