Breakfast at Kayotei. Named the Best in Japan, and I have little reason to argue. Their focus on local producers and artisans makes it extra special. Starts with tea and umeboshi under the kotstsu in your room, then off to the garden view for a huge spread that just keeps coming. Extra thanks to the lovely staff that taught me a neat trick for deboning grilled fish.

One of my very, very happy places. The first ryokan I ever stayed in, 13 years ago. Still a favorite. Excellent food and hospitality.
