Just to continue my #littlemeg_best2019 series currently about Italy, we stayed in Hotel L'Albereta before we traveled to Lido 84 the next day and this pizzeria, La Filiale, is located inside the premise. It is not the most convenient place to get a pizza, but it is a branch of Pepe in Grani, one of the most famous pizzeria in Italy. Naturally we checked it out at night after we arrived at hotel at 9pm.

We ordered two pizza : •FIORI DI ZUCCA - FIORDILATTE CHEESE "IL CASOLARE". SMOKED SCAMORZA CHEESE, CETARA ANCHOVIES, COURGETTE FLOWERS, PEPPER, OIL EVOO (pic 1 front, pic 2-3) and •SCARPETTA - FRESH BUFFALO MOZZARELLA DOP "IL CASOLARE", 12 MONTHS AGED GRANA
PADANO CREAM, TOMATO COMPOTE, BASIL POWDER, 24 MONTHS AGED GRANA PADANO FLAKES, EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL FROM CAIAZZO (pic 4-5).

We both agreed Fiori di Zucca is the 💣. Milky, cheesy, very high quality anchovy, very delicious courgette flowers. The pizza crust was not life changing delicious but it tasted very good (especially this one) The cornicione was well charred but not overburnt. It hit you right away as “so good!” after a bite. The kind of things you want to eat in Italy - ingredient driven and technique.

It might not be the best pizza I had but easily the best in this trip (which admittedly is more of a pasta trip than pizza)

Their signature SCARPETTA was good but did not have the wow impact and got a bit tiring to finish as the taste stayed one note the whole time. Fried Calzone was ok only for me (a bit too empty inside), and desserts were very good which is usually the case in Italy without doing too much fancy stuff Less
