Recommended bowl: Jiro trained
Gen is a bit tricky to find, tucked away on a quiet little residential alleyway in the backstreets of Shimokitazawa. The master here trained for multiple years at the infamous Meguro branch of Ramen Jiro, a shop that has been drawing long lines for years. As is customary at Jiro, before each bowl is served here customers have the option of free add-ons such as chopped garlic, extra veggies and/or pork fat. The thick-cut noodles are house-made on a noodle machine located on site. Salty and fatty tonkotsu shoyu soup, with sizable portions. Open since July, 2019.
